    Recently, the project of National Energy Groupundertaken by our university -“Industrial Experimental Research on Burning Shenhua Coal in Space Furnace”, has developed a newtype of coal applicable to the pulverized coal gasification process in space furnace, which was successfully test-burned in Shandong Union Chemical Group. The test burning shows that the new coal has normal slag hanging, lower slag discharge, lower carbon residue and higher effective gas concentration in the gasifier, and all gasification performance indexes are better than the current exported gasification coal type “ShenYou2#”of National Energy Group.It is also an excellent chemical raw-materialcoal suitable for pulverized coal gasification process and meets the requirements of “safe, stable, long, full and excellent”operation of gasifier.

    The research of this project started in April, and a research team was established with Professor Li Hanxu as the general superintendent and Associate Professor Wu Chengli as the technical manager. During the research process, the team actively overcame the influence of the epidemic and other unfavorable factors, and after 5 joint video conferences of the three parties, 23 proportioning experiments of 16 alternative coal types, 3 exchanges of proposals by experts in the plant, 7 trial-burning meetings and many other explorations, the new coal for trial burning was finally determined. The research team provided technical service for Shenhua’s new coal for 9 days with 14 persons. The new coal solved the problem of poor adaptability of the original coal sample used in the coal gasification project of Shandong Union Chemical Group for the space furnace gasification process, and broadened the choice of raw material coal.

    Through the trial burning, it shows that the scientific research achievements of our university are successfully applied in the adaptation of pulverized coal gasification raw material, which lays the theoretical and application foundation for further clean and efficient conversion of coal resources, and it is also the application of the research and development of “ clean utilization of coal & safe, accurate and intelligent platform development” in the project of Energy Research Institute of Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center (Anhui Energy Laboratory).
