School of Humanities and Social Science

    The School of Humanities and Social Science was founded in 2007. It originated from the Department of Humanities and Social Science and was renamed as the School of Humanities and Social Science in August 2010. In April 2011, the Ideological and Political Theory Course Department was independent from the School in line with the requirement of the Education Ministry of China.

    TheSchool is composed of four departments, including Media, Politics and Administrative Science, Animation, and Social Work, and the Humanistic Quality Development Centre. The Chinese Traditional Culture Research Institute of Anhui University of Science and Technology is affiliated to the School. It offers four undergraduate Programs, including Politics andAdministrative Science, Animation, Social work, and Network New Media, and one master’s program Public Administration and Urban Culture. It shoulders the public optional courses ofhumanities and social science of all the undergraduates. It is an important base for the teaching and research of humanities and social science of Anhui University of Science and Technology.

    The total number of faculty and staff is 31. Among them, there are 18 with senior professional titles, 1 Ph.D. supervisors, 5 master’s supervisors, and 1member ofHigher Education Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education. The faculty members have received many honors, includingthe “Master Award” in National Cultural and Creative Design Contest, the title of “Academic and Technological Pioneers of Anhui province”, “Outstanding Young Talents of Anhui Provincial Colleges and Universities”, “Shungeng Talent of Huainan City”, etc. Many of them graduated from prominent colleges and universities in different regions, including Fudan University, Nankai University, Wuhan University, Jilin University, Sichuan University, University of Science and Technology of China, etc. With high-level education background and strong teaching and research abilities, they have won awards in various teaching contests, and has undertaken a number of high-level programs including programs of Social Sciences Foundation of China, Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as National Soft Science Program. In recent years, they have published more than 30 papers in journals indexed by SCI and CSSCI, won nearly 10 scientific research achievement awards and teaching achievement awards of ministerial and provincial level, and won the third prize of Research Contribution Collective of Anhui University of Science and Technology in 2014 and 2015.

    The School boasts a comprehensive teaching experiment center with a total area of more than 1000 square meters, consisting of several laboratories equipped with 240 instruments (including 2 large scale precision instruments) of 5.7 million yuan.

    It has creatively put forward the talents training mode of “Five One”, and devotes to the cultivation of the students' ability of innovation and practice, taking the discipline contests as the drive force. Students of the School have received satisfactory results in contests and competitions, including National Marketing Research and Analysis Contest, National Advertising Art Competition, College Original Anime Contest, etc. The work of student Chen Zhenghui won the Hundreds Outstanding Theoretical Achievements Award of College Students in 2015. Fang Shuyang won the first prize in the National College English Contest in 2015. Hu Yanni won the first prize in the National Karate Championships.

    With the development and discipline construction, the School has gradually formed its advantages and characteristics. It boasts a rich resource of potential students; high employment rate around 95%; the good atmosphere of study, the average rate of the postgraduate entrance examination being over 20%; and strong strength in discipline competitions.
